Appearance. John is around six foot three in height. His dark hair and olive complexion make his grey-blue eyes stand out, making his Italian and Mediterranean heritage very obvious. He usually sports a scruffy beard and mustache, and can usually be seen wearing plain bluejeans and a teeshirt. Since the outbreak of Project Blue he has cared even less about his appearance, though since his arrival in the Free Zone and realization that he was once again in the presence of the opposite sex he has reconsidered his appearance.

Personality. Naturally, as a carpenter, John is pretty laid back and easygoing. He has phenomenal work ethic-- an old client of his once said "that boy wouldn't stop until someone shot him in the back! And even then he'd keep going!"-- that you might even call workaholicism. Also, despite his genuinely easygoing persona, John can have quite a temper. He uses his work as an escape from stress and allows it to build up to a point where he breaks. Usually he is able to keep this under wraps; he has so far only lost his temper while he was alone.

History. John was born in the small Florida beach town of Deerfield Beach to Catherine and John Castellini Sr. By the age of eight he had learned and fallen in love with the family trade, which had been carried on through three generations. Although John was the first only son since the business was established he planned to take it over and continue it when his father and uncle retired.

After graduating high school in the year 1986, John joined his father's business as a full-time carpenter. He felt that he had no real place in college, although his older sister Lauren had just obtained her Bachelor's Degree in business and his younger sister Beth (just starting high school at the time) planned on becoming a teacher. At the time of the Captain Trips epidemic John Castellini Sr. had just handed the thriving business down to his only son.

Catherine, Beth and John Castellini Sr. caught the virus at around the same time, and died only days apart from each other, with only John left to watch his family diminish. At the time of the power outage in his town he had no news of his older sister, who had recently moved to New York City because of a job promotion. He has since assumed the worst.

John left Deerfield Beach soon after the death of his mother, who lived the longest, when he began having the dreams about Mother Abagail. He did not make it to the Boulder Free Zone in time for the stand in Las Vegas and has only just recently arrived in the Free Zone.

Romantic involvement(s). John is not currently romantically involved, although he hopes to someday pass on his family name.

Likes and dislikes. John's taste in music varies from classic rock to country, the music of the south. He enjoys painting landscapes in his free time, although he doesn't feel as though he is all that good at it. He loves the ocean and as a young boy tried his hand at surfing, although the waves in his area were never quite right for it. He enjoys long drives to nowhere in particular but hates the highway, complaining frequently about all the traffic. He doesn't like big cities or airplanes, which is ironic as he grew up in the Ft. Lauderdale area. There isn't too much he doesn't like, especially when it comes to food. However, for a guy who grew up in a beach town he has a strange dislike for seafood. He also highly disapproves of alcohol, although on rare occasion he will have a beer. (This goes back to an accident his cousin Fred was in where the other driver was DUI, resulting in paralysis for Fred and a funeral for the other guy.) He doesn't believe in organized religion but does believe in a God, having been raised in a Protestant-Catholic household.

Quirks. He refuses to drink any other cola than Pepsi.
